Editorial Policy

1. Product Selection

We include a mattress in our database when it meets all of the following criteria:

• Publicly available for purchase in the United States (direct-to-consumer or major retail)
• Verifiable specifications: Construction details, materials, and dimensions available from the manufacturer or a reliable retail source
• Minimum market presence: The brand has been operating for at least 6 months and has a track record of honoring its warranty and return policies
• Verifiable pricing: At least one current, dated price point we can substantiate

We do not require an affiliate relationship to include a mattress. Products without affiliate programs are included when they meet the above criteria and are relevant to our readers.

We do not accept payment for inclusion in our database, for favorable reviews, or for improved placement in any ranking or recommendation.

2. Research Methodology

Our research process is documented in detail on our How We Research page. In summary:

• We analyze construction specs (foam layers, coil systems, materials, height) against industry benchmarks
• We cross-reference manufacturer claims with independent material data where available
• We track pricing over time and flag promotional pricing separately from regular pricing
• We aggregate and analyze verified customer reviews from multiple platforms
• We document the source and date of every factual claim in our database

What we don't claim

We do not claim to have physically tested mattresses we haven't tested. We clearly distinguish between conclusions drawn from specification analysis versus conclusions that require hands-on experience. Where we lack hands-on data, we say so.

3. Ratings and Rankings

Mattress scores and ratings on SleepRanked are calculated using a weighted formula that factors in construction quality, value relative to price tier, verified customer satisfaction, warranty terms, and sleep position suitability. The full weighting methodology is documented on our How We Rank and How We Research pages.

Ratings are never adjusted based on commercial relationships. A mattress with an affiliate program receives the same evaluation as one without. If applying our methodology produces a rating we believe is unfair for any reason, we investigate and document the discrepancy — we do not simply adjust the score.

4. Conflicts of Interest

SleepRanked earns revenue through affiliate commissions when readers purchase through our links. We are transparent about this in our Affiliate Disclosure and on every page that contains affiliate links.

What we do to manage conflicts:

• Editorial decisions (which products to feature, how to rank them) are made independently of our business/affiliate team
• We do not accept free products in exchange for reviews or favorable coverage
• We do not accept sponsored content that presents paid placements as editorial recommendations
• Commission rates do not influence rankings — a mattress with a 10% commission rate is not ranked higher than one with a 3% rate because of that difference
• If we receive a product for review, we will disclose it prominently

5. Accuracy and Fact-Checking

We hold ourselves to the following standards:

• Every factual claim (price, spec, policy) must have a citable, dated source
• Prices are reviewed and updated on a rolling basis; a “last verified” date is displayed where applicable
• Product availability is reviewed at least quarterly
• We do not publish speculative claims about product performance without clearly labeling them as such

6. Update Cadence

• Mattress database: Pricing updated continuously via automated sources; construction data reviewed quarterly
• Buying guides: Reviewed and updated at least semi-annually, or when significant market changes occur
• Sleep education articles: Reviewed annually for scientific accuracy; updated when consensus changes
• Brand pages: Reviewed whenever a brand releases a new model or significantly changes a product line

7. Corrections Policy

We take accuracy seriously. If you find a factual error — incorrect spec, outdated price, wrong policy description — please contact us. We will:

• Investigate the claim within 5 business days
• If confirmed, correct the error and note the correction at the bottom of the relevant page
• Update the “Last reviewed” date on the page

We do not silently correct errors. Corrections are noted transparently.

8. Comments and User Feedback

SleepRanked does not currently host public comments. We use direct contact for feedback. This prevents the kind of astroturfing and brand-influenced commenting that plagues many review sites. We may add a moderated feedback system in the future.

9. AI and Automation Disclosure

Some research processes (price aggregation, specification extraction, data normalization) are assisted by automated tools. All editorial content — articles, guides, evaluations — is written and reviewed by human editors before publication. We do not publish unedited AI-generated content as editorial opinion.
