Need Help Deciding?
For most sleepers, we recommend the GhostBed Luxe Foam over the Amerisleep AS5. Our catalog rates it higher for cooling, durability; check current linked-seller prices and terms before deciding on value. The Amerisleep AS5 is the better choice only if you specifically prefer a softer, more plush feel.
Amerisleep AS5 vs GhostBed Luxe Foam: What Actually Differs
Both the Amerisleep AS5 and GhostBed Luxe Foam are memory foam mattresses, so the real differences come down to firmness tuning, performance ratings, and price rather than construction type. Profile-wise they're almost identical — the Amerisleep AS5 measures 14" and the GhostBed Luxe Foam measures 14", so neither will dictate your sheet depth or bed-frame compatibility. The GhostBed Luxe Foam is the firmer of the two at 6.5/10 (medium-firm), and the Amerisleep AS5 sits at 3/10 (soft) — a meaningful enough gap that sleeper position and weight should drive the choice. The single largest performance gap is in cooling: the GhostBed Luxe Foam rates noticeably higher than the Amerisleep AS5, which is the deciding factor if that dimension is high on your list.
Which Is Better For Your Sleep Style?
Both rate the same for pressure relief — choose on firmness instead (side sleepers usually prefer the softer of the two: Amerisleep AS5 at 3/10).
Medium-Firm includes the option closest to a balanced medium feel for back sleepers (vs Soft).
Medium-Firm includes the firmer published option (vs Soft), which may better suit shoppers who prefer more surface support.
Stronger cooling rating, which matters most for sleepers who run hot or live in warm climates.
better long-term durability — the two specs heavier sleepers should weigh most.
Soft includes the softer published option (vs Medium-Firm), which can make contouring easier for lighter sleepers.
Motion isolation rated the same on both — neither has a transfer-disturbance edge.
Amerisleep AS5
Strengths
- ✓The five-inch comfort system combines three inches of Bio-Pur with two inches of faster-rebounding Active Flex for deep cushioning without relying on slow memory foam alone
- ✓Two inches of five-zone HIVE foam provide firmer response beneath the head, back, and legs and more give beneath the shoulders and hips according to Amerisleep's construction description
- ✓Choose AS5 Foam over AS5 Hybrid for quieter, steadier contour and the lower current catalog price; choose Hybrid for spring response, support-core airflow, easier movement, and a stronger perimeter
- ✓The solid Bio-Core support layer avoids connected coil movement, a practical construction advantage for couples who prioritize motion isolation over bounce
Considerations
- —The soft 3/10 feel and five inches of comfort foam are a poor starting point for strict stomach sleepers and shoppers who want a flat, firm surface
- —Amerisleep includes heavy sleepers in its broad AS5 positioning but publishes no product capacity or independent compression result on the reviewed page; higher-bodyweight back and stomach sleepers should compare firmer and coil-supported options
- —Amerisleep's seven-degree Refresh comparison, cooling, recovery, circulation, alignment, pressure, pain, motion, edge, and durability statements are manufacturer or construction evidence rather than SleepRanked lab results
GhostBed Luxe Foam
Strengths
- ✓The published eight-part build provides 7 inches of comfort, cooling, and zoned transition material above the 7-inch high-density support core
- ✓Its 2-inch ProCore Elite layer places firmer support through the center third while the all-foam core avoids coil bounce
- ✓The quilted cover, separate Ghost Ice layer, and graphite-and-gel memory foam form GhostBed's deepest current passive-cooling foam package
- ✓Choose Luxe Foam over Luxe Hybrid when quieter partner movement and a more cradling medium-firm surface matter more than perimeter lift
Considerations
- —The all-foam core provides less perimeter pushback and less springy movement than the Luxe Hybrid's wrapped coils
- —GhostBed's 5x cooling and 33% more support figures are manufacturer comparisons, not independent SleepRanked lab measurements
- —The 14-inch profile can require deep-pocket sheets and is heavier to rotate or reposition than a thinner mattress
