Start with these listed features, advertised feel, and seller terms, then consider how they fit your preferences. The detailed comparison below covers shared features, differences, and questions to confirm before choosing either mattress.
Why it matters: Both give shoulders and hips five inches of responsive foam before the main support system. Active Flex is designed to add softness and rebound faster as you turn, so Hybrid buyers are not giving up the material that defines AS5. Foam buyers receive it at the lower price.
Why it matters: The foam AS5 uses a continuous support stack for a deep, steady contour. The Hybrid uses independent coils to add more pushback under that same plush comfort system. This helps combination sleepers rise out of the cushion more easily while retaining AS5's pressure-relieving surface.
Why it matters: Choose foam when a partner's movement is easy to notice and you enjoy a calm, enveloping bed. Choose Hybrid when you like AS5's softness but do not want the mattress to feel slow as you roll over, get up, or change from side to back.

Buy AS5 Foam for the full plush AS5 experience at the stronger value. You still get 3 inches of Bio-Pur, 2 inches of Active Flex, the soft feel, Refresh cover, and the same direct trial while saving $300. Upgrade to AS5 Hybrid when you want that identical five-inch comfort stack over 8 inches of zoned pocketed coils. The coils make the bed easier to move on, open airflow space, and strengthen support near the edge—the practical reasons to pay more without giving up AS5's deep cushion.
AS5 Foam and AS5 Hybrid share the same soft 3/10 feel, 14-inch height, 3-inch Bio-Pur comfort layer, separate 2-inch Active Flex layer, Refresh cover, 100-night direct trial, and 20-year warranty. The Hybrid costs $300 more for a Queen and replaces the foam model's 2-inch HIVE layer plus 7-inch Bio-Core base with an 8-inch zoned pocketed-coil unit over a 1-inch base. You keep the deep AS5 cushion either way; the premium buys a livelier, airier support system beneath it.
Why it matters
AS5's thick soft comfort stack makes the support beneath it especially important near the perimeter. Couples using the full Queen surface and warm sleepers who want more air through the core get the clearest Hybrid benefit. Center sleepers and shoppers whose bedding already manages heat can keep the $300 savings.
Why it matters
The Hybrid does not make AS5 firmer, taller, or more cushioned at the surface. It changes how the mattress supports and responds below the comfort layers. Shoppers choosing between these two do not need to compromise on the plush feel or added Active Flex material.
Why it matters
The foam AS5 saves $300 with the same direct buying protection. Amerisleep asks direct buyers to try either mattress for at least 30 nights, then offers free professional pickup and a full refund during the 100-night trial. Another retailer's comfort guarantee controls when that seller supplies the shopping link.
Use the differences above to match the mattress to the way you sleep. Each model has a clear reason to buy. When one costs less, choose it if it already delivers the feel, support, and temperature control you want. Pay more when the added material or feature gives you a benefit you expect to notice every night.
Published construction details and claims are from Amerisleep's current AS5 foam, AS5 Hybrid, Active Flex, construction, price, and trial specifications. SleepRanked verified both exact Queen configurations, current prices, and direct trial terms on September 12, 2026. Amerisleep publishes the exact 3-inch Bio-Pur and 2-inch Active Flex layers shared by both builds, plus the all-foam and hybrid support stacks. Airflow, motion, and response guidance translates that architecture into practical buying effects.
